Congrats to junior Alex Kessler, freshman Holden Williams, sophomore Macie Owens, and junior Taylor Mabry for making it to State for Indoor Track! MHS is proud of these dedicated athletes.

Owens and Mabry are the two female athletes who made it to State. Mabry made it to State through qualifying “for the 1600m placing second place in 5:16.” Owens qualified “for the 800 meter run and ran a 2:25 to qualify.”

Mabry placed 7th at the indoor State meet last weekend in the 1600m in 5:13. Owens placed 12th for the 800m in 2:25.

Mabry walked through her morning of a race, sharing, “I have a whole ritual… I eat the same foods every day, I journal, I listen to music, I pray, I take honey water a couple minutes before the race. I honestly do so much to prepare and I try to be intentional, focusing on what I can control.”

Indoor track season always kicks the season off for our track runners, helping ramp their energy up for outdoor track and make even more memories.

Owens shared one of her favorite memories saying, “My favorite memory from indoor track this season was qualifying for indoor TopTimes at the Clinton Last Chance Meet. I feel like that was a race where I just took pressure off of myself and ended up doing well. It was a big step in the right direction for me, especially after having a lot of challenges this season so far.” Mabry added her favorite memory: “My favorite memory was probably winning the mile at the SIU carbondale meet. It was a long, exhausting day and I was doubting myself so much, but I pushed through and ended up having so much fun!”

Congrats again to all our MHS track runners who made it to indoor State. We can’t wait to see the runner’s improvements in this outdoor track season.
