Seniors’ last year

This school year is the last year of high school for the Class of 2027. Many students are happy to be graduating and moving on with their life, but for others it can seem frightening at the same time.

Abbie Woods is one of the ones who is excited to be moving forward and leaving high school behind, “I’m definitely looking forward to graduation; I’m ready to get out of the house and try to figure life out”

Brenna Cunningham has similar feelings as Woods, however leaving high school brings up other feelings as well, “It both excites me and scares me at the same time. I’m excited to move onto something new, but at the same time I’m leaving behind so many people who I care about.”

Senioritis is a common thing amongst seniors all over. Vivian Bullwinkel thinks she can overcome it if she tries to focus on the better things, “A goal I have for this year is to be more positive. It’s my last year and things are looking ahead and it’s a good mindset to have for senior year and to manage senioritis.”

Students either look forward to the first day of school — mostly freshmen ready for a fresh start. It can bring excitement, but for seniors it brings other feelings as well. Cunningham said getting ready for the first day this year brought out other emotions, “I definitely think getting ready for the first day this year was different because it was the first of many lasts. It didn’t feel happy or sad, but nostalgic.”

Not every senior feels the same, but this year allows for different emotions from the previous ones to shine. Whether it’s happiness, excitement to move on, or nostalgia from the past years.
