Monticello High School students have officially begun the exciting fourth quarter. This quarter often brings more excitement than the others. Freshman are working hard to keep their grades up and preparing to do well during finals.

Many students look forward to summer, especially the freshman who have experienced the major transition into high school this year. While the spring is filled with both excitement and the anticipation for the end of the school year, many students have found this year to be a difficult shift from the work load and social pressure of middle school. However, the recent warmer weather and the upcoming spring events, like prom, have seemed to lift freshmen students’ moods a bit.

Freshman Jacob Wood explained, “I’m feeling alright this quarter academically. I think I have kind of fallen off and I have been slacking a bit as we come closer to the end of the year, and I will try harder to work in study time and not procrastinate.”

Freshman Callie Aikman added, “I’ll focus on studying for tests so I can finish out the year well, with good grades.”

Wood also said, “I would like to say I will be focusing most of my time on studying but [my focus will] probably [be on] spending time with friends.”

“I am most looking forward to being outside more and enjoying the nice weather!” Aikman exclaimed.

Wood continued,  “Fourth quarter, I’m probably looking forward to prom the most and having fun with my friends there. I’m very excited about that.”

Having fun, spending time with friends, and keeping grades up are essential to these students. Staying determined and enjoying all the little things will continue to influence students through high school years and throughout life.
