The annual blood drive has arrived at Monticello High School! Many students and staff participated, and the event had a great turnout!
Senior Marissa Aikman was asked about why she chose to donate; “I donated blood because I know that there is such a need for it, and it was encouraging to hear that only 1 pint of blood can save up to 3 lives. My grandpa had to get a blood transfusion when he lost a lot of blood, so that was encouraging to me.” The bravery that Monticello’s students withhold is unbelievable! It takes courage and strength to do something you’re afraid of and Marissa achieved both of those! Sophomore Lexi Cole was also asked why she chose to donate. Her response was: “I donated to help people because some can’t donate blood. So, since I can, I did.” Cole said she will continue to donate because she has enjoyed the process, and enjoyed being able to help ones in need!
Sophomore Ellie Freeman experienced her first time donating this year; “My experience was very good! I was definitely scared because it was my first time, but overall it was a good experience.” Donating blood can be scary, especially if it’s your first time, but Ellie conquered her fear and made a good memory in the process! Freeman was also asked if she would choose to donate again. Her response was: “Yes! It’s so easy to do and it’s something simple that you can do to help others. It helps me knowing that someone needs that blood more than I do.”
The blood drive will continue to grow and have an even better turnout than the amazing crowd that donated this year!
