As prom season approaches, excitement is building among students as they prepare for one of the most memorable nights of high school. This year’s theme, Paris, has sparked anticipation, creativity, and plenty of opinions from those getting ready to attend.
For many students, finding the perfect dress is one of the most important parts of the experience. Senior Lilie Burse shared that she returned to Simply Elegant in Lincoln for her dress, saying she loves the store’s unique selection and wide range of prices. “Their dresses aren’t all the same,” she explained, noting that the variety helps her find something that stands out.
Others chose different routes. Kiara Grace purchased her dress online from Stacees, saying she preferred the broader selection available there. Meanwhile, Madison Bonds chose Windsor, highlighting its affordability and stylish options.
Beyond dresses, students also shared their thoughts on whether having a date matters. Opinions varied, but many agreed prom carries more pressure than homecoming. “Prom is definitely more focused on having a date,” Burse said, though she added that going with friends can be just as fun. Grace echoed this idea, saying she feels prom is more date-oriented since it’s often the last one. Bonds, however, took a more relaxed view, explaining that having a date isn’t necessary, though it can make experiences like promenade more special.
The Paris theme has also been a big topic of conversation. Students seem excited but curious to see how it all comes together. “I like the theme, but I’ll have to see it at prom,” Burse said, comparing it to last year’s “A Night in Rio.” Grace appreciated the flexibility of the theme, noting it allows for a wide variety of dress colors. Bonds especially liked the creativity behind the invitations, which were designed to look like passports, and said she would personally enjoy a roaring twenties or art deco theme.
Of course, no prom would be complete without music. When asked what song would get them on the dance floor, students had clear favorites. Burse chose “The Wobble,” since it has fun, group dance energy. Grace said “Get It Sexy” would get her moving, while Bonds enthusiastically picked any song by Bruno Mars, calling him one of her favorite artists.
As the big night approaches, it’s clear that while styles, opinions, and music tastes may differ, the excitement is the same. Whether students attend with a date or a group of friends, prom continues to be a night filled with celebration, memories, and a little bit of magic, and this year with a Parisian twist.
