Senior assassin kicks off

Since March 30, Monticello High School seniors have been running their very own game of senior assassin with many seniors excited to get the game underway.

This senior tradition started last year, and the class of 2026 decided to keep it going. However, since it’s not affiliated with the high school, it cannot be played on any school grounds, but it’s fair game elsewhere.

In this game, seniors have a target to eliminate, but they also have a target on themselves. Many seniors become incredibly invested in the game, tracking their target with their brightly colored water guns and stealthily avoiding those pursuing them for weeks at a time.

Wearing goggles or floaties keeps them safe on regular days, but on the “purge day,” these items no longer serve as a form of immunity.

There are many people who believe they have some advantages. Senior Nolan Buehnerkemper. said, “An advantage I might have during this game is having a strong sense of senior assassin.”

Senior Lane Alexander shared different feelings, saying, “I don’t think I’ll have any big advantage since I live in a neighborhood and go to the gym, so I’m pretty accessible.”

Many seniors believe that there will be some challenges during this game. “I will definitely be more stressed out knowing that I can get out any time of the day, except school hours, and lose my chance to win a lot of money,” said Alexander.

Most seniors have plans on how they are going to win the game. “My strategy is to make sure I am always wearing my goggles outside of school, where I am vulnerable,” stated Buehnerkemper.

“I’m going to win by keeping my goggles on my neck every time I’m walking outside, and also talking to the friends of my target, hopefully to get them out,” said Alexander.

 Let the games begin!
