Recently, art class 11 has been busy working on their fear paintings. With the semester coming to a close in a few weeks, the students participated in a critique of their paintings to improve their skills.
Junior Gemma Vance explained, “I actually enjoy when people tell me what I can do to improve my art and having a critique to get feedback from multiple people is very helpful!” This open minded approach made the critique a huge success for the class.
Vance also said that the way the class has been structured has helped her get work done and have a goal to work towards; she felt that “the goal was to get as much feedback from as many different people as possible, which, for the most part, was executed very well.”
Junior Kylie Miller agreed, saying, “I think it did help me set a goal to work towards because other people’s advice helped me know what needed to be improved.” This critique didn’t just serve as a final check on techniques for the students, it helped them become more comfortable in the class and learn the benefits of constructive criticism.
When asked about what she enjoyed regarding the critique and the paintings, Miller said, “I liked seeing Cole’s the best because his painting techniques are very well done.” The students in art 11 really enjoyed seeing and commenting on other students’ works during this fun and new approach to the class.
It’s safe to say that the critique was a huge success for the class and the students really benefited from it in many ways. The tips learned will especially continue to aid in the improvement of their artistic skills throughout the school year.
