Monticello High School freshman through juniors had a long day of ACT testing on Wednesday, April 2nd. While that was taking place, most seniors were still asleep, in their warm cozy bed, due to seniors not having to take the test. Every year there is one day when every class except for the seniors have to take a standardized test; in years past it has been the SAT, however this year it was changed to the ACT. Seniors do a wide variety of things on this day off, but some still have practice for their sport in the afternoon.
When asked what he did on his day off, senior Brian Wiltgen replied, “I slept in and enjoyed my morning of not having to wake up early. I stayed up pretty late Tuesday night and hung out with some of my friends. I also tried to get active as a senior assassin, but still went empty handed.” This seemed to be a common theme; senior assassins had the most eliminations on this Wednesday, mainly due to seniors having the whole day off.
Taking the day to rest seemed to be a common theme. When asked about his day off, senior Braxton Tharp replied, “I planned to mainly take the day off. I didn’t want to waste my day by sleeping in or staying at my house for too long, but I also cherished the day by getting my rest.” Tharp also has a little brother who is in the school with him, “It was very nice, especially when I have a sophomore brother who had to go to school while I was still in my bed being lazy.”
This wasn’t just a day off, but it was the first time of their four year high school career when they didn’t have standardized testing. Wiltgen said, “It was a nice feeling knowing not only that I got the day off, but that other people (freshman-juniors) were having to stress about a test while I could enjoy myself and be stress free.” This was a shared feeling for nearly all of the seniors.
