Stock is defined as “goods or merchandise kept on the premise of a business or a warehouse and available for sale or distribution.” This is a concept that members of Mr. Webb’s Business Club are in the process of learning.

Mr. Webb, the Business Club sponsor, is having his club compete in The Stock Market Game to try and make as much money as possible through December of this year. The Stock Market Game is a simulation that replicates the buying, selling, and trading of stock online without any real currency involved.

“The point of the game,” Peyton Scott, Business Club President, explained, “is to familiarize the members with the concept of the stock market as well as gaining some knowledge about terms correlated with the stock market.”

The simulation starts as each team, containing five to ten members, has $100,000 in virtual cash to invest in stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds of their choice with the goal of making more money than the opposing teams.

The Stock Market Game isn’t just a game between the members of the MHS Business Club though. The MHS participants of the game are also competing against other teams in their region, which in total has 574 teams.

“Finishing at the top of 574 teams would definitely be nice, but being first in the class is really the goal that our group is shooting for,” Joey Sprinkle, senior member of the Business Club, stated.

“While I certainly agree with Joey about trying to be first in the class, it is not looking too hot right now,” Dylan Ginalick, team member of Sprinkle, rebuttaled, claiming their team has lost $25,000 so far in the game. “I am still confident that we will win though,” added Ginalick. “As a matter of fact, I heard Tesla is going to the moon, so we will be alright.”

To be honest, even with the definition I’m not sure I will ever really understand how stock works. Best of luck to Sprinkle and Ginalick, they’re gonna need it if they’re counting on Tesla
