Monticello students share some early predictions for March Madness and their thoughts about the current state of CBB.
On February 23rd and 24th, MHS students were asked what their thoughts about March Madness were. Here’s what they said:
When Sophomore Will Stanko was asked what his final four prediction was, he said, “llinois, Michigan, Purdue, and Nebraska.” This is interesting because all four of these teams are Big Ten teams. It’s really refreshing to finally see people have faith in the Big Ten.
Some students had some things to say about the new NIL rule. Thaddeus Rudolph, a senior at MHS and a big CBB fan, said, “I think NIL is dumb and it takes away from the game. I think players now go to where they can get more money rather than where they can develop their game. And, now if they don’t play, they just transfer.” NIL stands for Name, Image, Likeness. This allows players to receive money from coaches and get profit from their jerseys, autographs, social media posts, or even meet and greets.
When Will Stanko was asked about who his favorite player to watch this year was, he said, “Since I really only watch Illinois games, for me, it’s either Wagler, or Stojakovic.” It seems like a lot of students mostly just watch the Illinois games. The Illini are having a great season this year, so it’s not surprising that they have a lot of fans.
We’ll see how these predictions hold up a month from now and how CBB will change later on.
