Every year, the Monticello LifeSavers host an annual lock-in along with the Bement LifeSavers. Students are given the chance to make new friends from all grade levels and have fun.
“I really enjoyed seeing my friends from Bement and making new friends in general. I feel like I was able to spend a lot of time with new people,” said Junior Suzy Nichols.
During this long night, students played dodgeball, volleyball, tag, and many other fun games and activities. Junior Addison Dorjahn said, “I made many fun memories at the lock-in, including playing sardines with the other lifesavers.”
Many people look forward to this event because of how many memories get made. Nichols explained, “I made a lot of new friends and got a lot closer to people I was already friends with. It was a fun time that I will remember.” For some, this can be a bittersweet moment, especially for seniors. “I definitely created fun memories at the lock in! It was sad since it was my last year to be there, but I enjoyed myself and I’m grateful for the people who organized it,” stated senior Marissa Aikman.
Many people have never attended this event as they were first-year members, but even though it might be intimidating, first-year member Dorjahn pointed out that “through the lock in, I was able to hang out with people I don’t normally hang out with, and I got to spend time and learn more about lots of different people!”
Aikman shared, “The lock in definitely helped me create new friends and connections due to how the Bement Lifesavers members were in attendance, and also because of the mix of ages of people involved. It is fun to be put into groups with people who I am not familiar with, so I can build friendships.”
