As we near the fourth quarter, freshmen are close to finishing their first year of high school.

Freshman Suri Nguyen mentioned one of her biggest stresses being “balancing homework and extra school curriculars.” Going from middle school to high school is a big switch, which can lead to accumulated stress.

Keeping up with grades and school activities gets harder as the year drags on. It’s not uncommon for students to lose motivation along with focus during their second semester of the school year.

Sometimes workloads given by teachers can be hefty, but freshman Sophie Burkybile said, “Depending on the class, I feel like I overall had a manageable workload.” Taking classes that peak your interest can make work more enjoyable and even easier.

Getting involved is one of the main goals at MHS. Freshman Joslyn Carr said, “I’m very pleased with how involved I was this year. I participate actively in thespians, art club, scholastic bowl, GSA, band, and choir.”

It’s important to make the most of your high school experience. You don’t want to regret what you could’ve done, but instead be happy that you made the most of it.

Another big part of high school is the friends you make across grades. Nguyen mentioned a reason she likes high school is because, “I am able to communicate with the upperclassmen.” She also added, “I feel like it’s great to make friends on different grade levels and find your own group.”

Doing more extracurriculars allows you to meet multiple groups of people, and make all sorts of friends that share your same interests.

High school is a completely different experience than middle school. Carr said, “I really like the new opportunities that high school brings.” Make the most of the opportunities given to you.

This is what high school is all about. Finding your people and hobbies, and creating memories that will last forever.
