The Monticello Sages have begun to get ready for the baseball season, and they’re doing it in force. The team has been holding weight lifting sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays and have started a morning throwing program as well.

Many baseball players are excited for the season, especially the returning upperclassmen. Senior Heyden Romano is ready to go and is seeing the improvements of his teammates. “This year we’ve been working out on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the weight room, and we’ve been doing that since Thanksgiving. We’ve also started a morning throwing program where we go to Pregame on weekday mornings to condition our arms and start throwing and hitting. Everyone has been putting in a lot of work and it’s really showing off.”

Players coming back from last year have a lot to look forward to and are confident in the team’s abilities. “I think that our team’s pitching will be really good this year, despite how many arms we lost last year. We have a lot of people that can make an impact and I think it’s going to show,” stated junior Forest Rawdin, a pitcher for the Sages.

The team has a lot to build on, as they have experienced deep playoff runs often in past years. Romano knows this, but is also focused and excited on his own season. “I’m just excited to play my senior season and make it be the best it can be. Overall, I know this will be a good year and I’ll have a lot of fun,” he said.

Every year, the Sages go down south to the Carbondale area over spring break, something that many of them look forward to. “I’m super ready for our spring break trip, which is always super fun and a great time for everyone to bond and come together as a team,” said Rawdin.

The Sages have a lot to look forward to, and are gearing up for their season eagerly. The team will begin their season looking to win on March 16 at home vs Effingham High School.
