No matter when, where, or how long these girls have cheered, the senior Sages cheerleaders made a family at MHS. They worked so hard to get where they are and it’s time to say goodbye. Some of these seniors have been in the cheer program since they were 12 years old, while others just started.

When asked about these seniors’ favorite memories, most of them said “State [in] 2024!” Emma Juvinall shared, “My favorite memory from cheerleading would be a tie between two! I would have to say either going to state for football my junior year…”

Mylin Bruhn excitedly claimed, “My favorite cheer memory was decorating Monticello Road before the Unity vs. Monticello game last year during football season. It made me realize how cool it is to live in a small town that supports each other no matter what. It was super fun with the girls and all the jokes we made along the way!”

Pyper Burton said, “I will miss all of the girls that I’ve created friendships with during the season. But the thing I will miss the most is getting to be a part of so many different school activities and playing such a big role in the community for different events, like homecoming week,” when asked what she was going to miss the most about cheer.

Bailee Wierman mentioned, “I will miss all the girls and will forever miss the excitement of the crowd, especially under our Friday night lights. I will also miss our pregame snack stops where we made the most fun memories.”

Finally, the seniors give advice to younger cheerleaders. Margo Cassel explained, “To all the younger cheerleaders, I would tell them to just have fun with it. There are definitely times where it can get stressful and I feel like a lot of people don’t see the behind the scenes of it and just assume we get cute and show up and cheer. That’s definitely not the case. There is a lot of hard work put in, and I would just tell them to take a deep breath and have fun with it because, unfortunately, it doesn’t last forever.”

Jamie Clodfelter exclaimed, “I would tell them to not hold back from becoming a great cheerleader. No one is better than you, we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Just work hard and, most of all, have fun.”

Lastly, Kaylin Matthews, a senior who participated on the cheer team for the first time this year, said, “My advice to younger cheerleaders is to not get overwhelmed too fast because it’ll come with time.”

These seniors have had the time of their life being involved with the school, and you could too. Take their advice into consideration and maybe you could try out for cheer as well.
