The Lady Sages’ Girls Basketball team took on the Taylorville Tornadoes on January 24th, and nobody would’ve ever thought a video of Sarah Cresap would have been shared worldwide. The video has now racked up 12 million views and is continuing to soar in both likes and views.
Junior Will Osborne was the person behind the camera. When asked what his first reaction was to seeing the video go viral, he said, “It was really weird seeing a video that I took go viral. I honestly thought that it wasn’t possible.” Osborne shared the video with Lyman Larson who covers all Sages’ sports for IL SportsWire. “My initial reaction to the video was surprised, but I knew it was funny so I gave it to Lyman. Then it just went viral, a crazy thing to happen overnight.”
Junior Sarah Cresap was the one shown in the viral video. Cresap was shown running full force into a defender and taking a pretty hard fall. When asked about the video, Cresap said, “When I first saw the video hit a million views I was shocked, but then it kept growing to now having around 12 million views, which is crazy.”
The video continued to grow, but then the unthinkable happened. The video of Cresap was shown on Overtime Sports, an account that holds around 38.8 million followers on Instagram. Even later, it was posted on the Barstool account on TikTok, which holds around 48 million followers. Cresap said, “When it got posted on Overtime, I didn’t know what to do. Everybody kept texting me telling me they posted it, but I didn’t know what to say. Seeing myself on one of the biggest sports pages is crazy.”
Osborne and Cresap both agreed that it was crazy what a silly video can do in a day. Osborne said, “I was so surprised when I learned that the video went viral. I honestly didn’t know what to say.”
Cresap added, “I didn’t think it had a chance of going viral. It was just another basketball video being posted.”
The video has been a buzz around the school and was a nice little surprise for all students.
