In the last week, MHS students experienced extremely cold weather and snow-storm conditions. With an E-Learning day on both Friday (the 23rd) and Monday (the 26th), students enjoyed a shortened school week with a long four-day weekend.
Ice covered the roads during the bulk of the weekend, making it hard and possibly dangerous to get out of the house. Instead, students occupied their time going back to the basics, along with completing the assigned work for the two E-Learning days. Senior Addison Finet stated, “I woke up around ten and then did school work. Afterward, I was productive around the house and played board games with my boyfriend and his family,” adding with a laugh, “I did not get out into the snow, though, because I was scared of crashing my car and I don’t like the cold.”
Some students enjoyed a couple cozy and relaxing days in. Sophomore Brooklyn Wierman shared what occupied her time, “During our E-Learning days I did most of my homework for my classes and then watched my show, The Vampire Diaries, on Hulu. On the first E-Learning day, I hung out with my friends and then had to get ready for my cheer game. On the second day, I did my homework and then laid in bed.”
The controversy surrounding E-Learning days versus a simple snow day is prevalent, but especially vocalized by our seniors. Giving praise to snow days over E-Learning, senior Emma Juvinall shared, “I don’t really care which day we get, especially for this year because I’m a senior so I wouldn’t have to make up the snow days.”
On the contrary, being a sophomore whose school days would drag into the summer if a snow day was called, Wierman voiced, “I would rather not have snow days because it is an extra day that we have to add on to the school year. Although I love not having anything to do, I would much rather have an E-Learning day over a snow day.”
Whether students braved it outside in the snow or stayed in for a cozy weekend, MHS students found our four day weekend quite enjoyable.
