In every hallway and on every social feed, it’s easy to notice that hairstyles are changing just as quickly as the world around us, showing how personal style has become a mirror of modern identity.

Many people see hair as more than a look–it’s a major part of how they express personality, confidence, and change. When asked if changing your hair affects your confidence at school, sophomore Lexi Cole shared that getting a new hairstyle always lifts her mood: it boosts her confidence and helps her feel more put together. But for sophomore Patrick Foster, a major haircut had the opposite effect. He said, “When I got a big haircut, I noticed I was a little quieter and less confident with my new one.”

In high school, fitting in can be just as important as standing out, and trends can influence what people do with their hair to find a balance. Cole explained that “fashion trends do influence people to change their hair, even if it doesn’t suit them because they want to stay trendy and not feel left out.” Cole also mentioned that trendy outfits can inspire matching hairstyles, showing how clothes and hair often go hand-in-hand. Similarly, sophomore Cate Sanders pointed out that “most people, especially in our school, are pretty up-to-date with the fashion trends. With self expression being a big part of high school, I think that most people want styles that are trendy.”

A new hairstyle can mark the start of healing or change, helping someone feel renewed and more in touch with who they are becoming. Cole shared, “Getting a new hairstyle makes me feel better, fresh, and more put together. I do think that a new hairstyle represents a change, either in personality or what someone is into at the moment.” Sanders similarly explained that “a fresh look can do wonders for someone’s confidence and can reflect a new era in someone’s life.”

In the end, a new hairstyle isn’t just about trends; it’s about transformation, confidence, and individuality.
