As the seasons change, so do sports. Transitioning from fall sports to winter/spring sports, the MHS athletes prepare their body and minds for a new season. Juniors Jack Watson and Taylor Mabry, both fantastic athletes at MHS, shared their training layouts, thoughts on rest days, and what they look to improve on this upcoming sports season.

Watson shared his training plan for moving from his football season to the upcoming track season by saying, “I’m doing off season weights for football, which still has some speed work and other drills that can apply to a track style workout.”

Mabry and Watson both talked about how motivated and committed they are this year to training and prepping for their next seasons compared to previous years.

These two shared similar opinions on how important rest days are. Mabry said, “Rest days are almost more important than the actual training, because you can’t drive a car with an empty gas tank. Resting my body and eating like crazy have become a major part of my training. I try to listen to my body, and pay attention to any pain I may feel, and take care of soreness or aches.” Watson added to this saying, “I enjoy my rest days. I believe every athlete does. Some little things I try to do are drinking more water to stay hydrated, stretching a little bit if I have time so I don’t get tight, eating because I’m trying to put on more weight in muscle, and letting my body rest and kind of recover from the workouts.”

Both athletes also talked about what they are looking forward to this next season and how they plan to improve. “I’m so excited to be back with the whole track team! I love our team, and meets are so fun when cheering everyone on. There’s no better feeling than running in the 4×400 at the end of a meet, and after your leg, cheering on your team. Track is the most exhilarating sport and I fall more in love with it each year, I can’t wait to compete again to chase after my goals!” Mabry exclaimed.

All MHS athletes are excited to start their next season and are coming at it with more power this time.
