Keeping people involved

Students are always extremely thrilled for winter events to start back up, including events like girls and boys basketball games, swim and wrestling meets, Madrigal caroling and dinners, and prep for the musical.

Pep Club prepares for winter events by getting people excited. In order to do so, they plan things such as poster painting nights, meetings, and assemblies. Additionally, they choose the student section themes for games.

All Pep Club members work with Mrs. Burton, who is the Pep Club sponsor, or club leaders to plan out activities to keep people enthusiastic. Junior class Pep Club leader, Ali Weidner, stated, “Orange Out is a big fundraiser we have to keep our student body engaged in for our winter sports. It is a great fundraiser for St. Jude and is in honor of [former school nurse] Natalie McDowell. Both the girls and boys basketball teams have this fundraiser at one of their games, and we also have a pep assembly to raise as much money as possible!”

Pep Club sponsor, Mrs. Burton, stated, “For the winter, we are doing a Christmas coloring contest for the elementary schools, [and] we will be decorating the school on December 3rd to prepare everyone for the holidays and try and add some cheer before break.”

Furthermore, students, parents, and faculty get involved in sports and events. Pep Club also has a half court shot competition at the Orange Out basketball games in honor of a Mrs. McDowell. All the money raised goes to Saint Jude. Burton stated, “…we will have an Orange Out game in February to honor the late Natalie McDowell, who was a school nurse here, and then all proceeds go to the St. Jude Run, which she was an avid supporter of.”

Pep Club gets everyone involved almost every week by holding homeroom meetings on Mondays and painting posters on Wednesdays. Weidner stated, “Extra roles as a Pep Club leader include helping set up assemblies, decorating and cleaning up the student section, and helping out with any event that we may sponsor!”

Pep Club is welcoming to all and helps keep everyone, even those not in the club, involved in our school body.
