Harvest Fest festivities

Each year, Monticello’s FFA Chapter holds their annual Harvest Fest. Harvest Fest is an event to which local farmers, as well as the whole town, are invited in order to raise money for the high school chapter. Senior, and Monticello’s Chapter President, Mylin Bruhn, stated, “Harvest fest is Monticello FFA’s largest fundraiser. The event consists of a silent auction, an annual live pie auction, a meal, t-shirts and beef stick sales, and child care. It is an awesome event for families and an opportunity to celebrate our AG community!”

When preparing for Harvest Fest, Senior and FFA Vice President, Rachel Ross stated, “A lot of work and preparation goes into Harvest Fest, even weeks before the event. Officers and other members are responsible for reaching out to local businesses for donations, donating their own silent baskets, or baking a pie. It’s an all-around group effort that takes a lot of teamwork to pull off.”

Albrecht stated her opinions on the night, saying, “We prepared by going door to door to businesses in Monticello and inviting them to our Harvest Fest and they can either donate a silent auction or a pie for the auction or just bring their family. We also had the cooks from the middle school make the chili for the dinner so we donated ingredients for them.”

While the chapter did not earn as much money as usual, “The event was still a success, and we brought in a lot of people from the community,” stated Ross. She added that the most rewarding part of the night was “seeing everyone coming out to support us and our FFA chapter. We spent a lot of time inviting people from the community and it meant a lot to see them come out.”

Similarly, Albrecht’s favorite part of the night consisted of “getting to pie the two officers who got the most money in their buckets, which [were] Rachel and Mylin, [and] I pied Rachel and rubbed it all over her face.”

Bruhn concluded with, “My favorite part of the night is seeing all of the support from our community. It is such a neat experience to be a part of. I love being able to see people support others and what they do. It truly brings the community together.”
