Seniors are feeling senioritis already this year. The motivation to keep up with schoolwork started to fade earlier than expected. As graduation grows closer and closer, the seniors are already full of anticipation and ready to be done, and it’s only December.
Senior Grayce Lilly commented, “I first started feeling senioritis close to the end of football season when I really didn’t have many events to go to. I felt as though I didn’t have much to look forward to except the actual school work.”
One big reason senioritis happens so unexpectedly is that seniors have been working so hard throughout their four years, and by the final stretch, they just want to enjoy their freedom. The pressure to maintain good grades, while keeping up with everything else, has gotten to senior Gavlyn Valentine, but she has found a way and pushed through it. She said, “I try to talk to my friends as much as I can and realize that it’s not the worst thing in the world. It is just really boring, and I’ve got to get through it.”
Valentine explained how senioritis feels to her, saying, “It really is draining and makes me dread everyday at school. It’s not that it’s a horrible environment, but a lot of the work we are completing this year doesn’t feel like it’s helping me. So, I think that it has no worth to me.”
In the end, the key to beating senioritis is to find ways to stay motivated, like setting small goals and rewarding yourself for the small things that you accomplish along the way. Lilly encouraged, “The advice I would give to the junior class is to find something to look forward to at the end of each week. The week goes by faster, and it keeps you motivated to get everything done.”
