The fall play is a major production at Monticello High School, and this year’s show was a hit with a great turnout on both show nights. However, the show couldn’t have gone on without the hard work of people behind the scenes and the actors putting in the work for this amazing show.
A lot of organization goes on behind the scenes. Stage manager, junior Abbie Woods, said, “To prepare for the show, I would get there 30 minutes early to set up makeup and prop tables and set out the props and make sure it was organized. I would also set up the curtain halfway, check and adjust the curtains on stage and sweep up any trash or junk that had gotten onto the stage.”
Sophomore Karsyn Stinson, who played Lady Ellen, said, “To prepare, I did my makeup, along with others that needed help. I got dressed and did circle affirmations with Amara, Luna, and Jacob.”
Woods later said, “Due to the fact that there were not many set building days, the backstage crew ended up doing a lot of the painting for it. Mrs. Malone did most of the design for it, but we just made it happen. We spent 2-3 full rehearsals painting the set. I loved the people in the backstage crew. They were all super helpful and ready to get their hands dirty with the painting. We were also super eager to work together.”
Stinson added on to that, saying, “I expected it to be well organized, and it was. We all had equal jobs and contributed one certain day.”
The show had a great turn out and was a big success.
