This semester at Monticello High School has been one filled with energy, creativity, and student involvement in the several clubs that are offered.
Junior Pep Club leader, Ali Weidner, shared that the club has been putting in major effort to keep the “sage rage” at an all time high.
“At football games, there’s always a paint up station where Pep Club leaders help paint students to match the student section theme,” Weidner explained. “We also provide bandannas and lots of noisemakers to keep our student section not only unified, but full of energy!”
However, their work doesn’t end with football season. Pep Club is now getting ready for one of their most meaningful traditions: the Orange Out basketball game held in honor of Natalie McDowell.
“I am most excited about the Orange Out fundraiser,” Weidner added. “Everyone wearing orange to support Natalie is really special and impactful.”
For students who want to get involved, Pep Club always welcomes new helping hands. “The best way to get involved is to donate, volunteer to decorate, or come to the meetings to find out how you can help,” Weidner encouraged.
Meanwhile, the MHS Thespians have been working tirelessly on their fall production of The Trials of Robin Hood that was performed during the evenings of November 13th and 14th. Junior Thespian Brenna Cunningham, who played Will Scarlett, shared an insight on what goes into putting together a show that the audience only sees the final product of.
“As an officer, I helped prepare mainly with social media, publicity, and whatever small tasks Mrs. Graham needed us to do,” Cunningham said.
Behind the scenes, though, there is a hero who keeps the production running smoothly: Mrs. Malone.
“If only you could take a look behind the stage and see everything she does during shows and rehearsals, you would be very impressed. From set designs, to making lists of props, to organizing costumes, she literally does it all,” Cunningham explained.
The thespians had several show options this year, but the directors ultimately chose The Trials of Robin Hood for a special reason — the size of the cast.
“We had a total of 38 people in the cast and crew,” Cunningham shared. “That’s almost double what we’ve had in previous years. It was the size of a musical cast! We are so blessed to have so many lovely actors this year.”
With Pep Club creating energy-filled atmospheres at games and Thespians bringing theatrical shows to the stage, MHS clubs continue to make the school environment unique in unforgettable ways. Their efforts reflect the commitment and enthusiasm of students who work hard to build community, spirit, and creativity.
