Forget the changing colors of leaves, and seasonal decor; this fall, all eyes were on the stage as the highly anticipated play, The Trials of Robin Hood, prepared to open.
To truly understand the energy and creativity fueling the performance, it’s essential to hear from those working hard on stage, as well as those working behind the scenes. Junior Abbie Woods, the stage manager, said, “The most rewarding part about working on the play is having everything come together so smoothly. Watching every element fall into place, and knowing that the stage crew’s teamwork helped make the show run smoothly, is really fulfilling.” Woods added, “I would say that the show is super fun, interactive, and silly.”
Senior Scotty Owen, who stars as the Sheriff of Nottingham, shared that “the most rewarding part of working on the show would be finally finding a good way to portray my character throughout each story. It was a journey that involved some vastly different characterizations, and it’s nice to finally settle down to specific things.”
Adding to the unique experience, Owen shared, “The Trials of Robin Hood is a hilarious play that takes you through an emotional roller coaster in three different formats.” This three-perspective show offers audiences a unique and entertaining way to experience this classic tale.
Delivering a consistent and emotionally impactful performance requires more than just memorization; it calls for a deep internalization of the role and trust in one’s own instincts. Owen explained that “the way to maintain consistency in theater is really similar to how we do it in marching band. At a point, it just becomes muscle memory, and you do things without thinking about it. You start to mess it up when you do think about it, so I tend to just turn my brain off when I’m performing.”
Those who attended the fall play experienced powerful performances from a talented cast, featuring gifted student actors and exciting new faces in Monticello High School’s theater program.
