Excitement has been buzzing throughout the halls of MHS一Thanksgiving break is just around the corner, leaving students with a sigh of relief. Not only is it a pause from school and stressful classes, but it is also a time to spend with friends and family.
Students’ thoughts are currently consumed by the events and plans for the upcoming break. Sophomore Lexi Cole said that her family is hosting Thanksgiving at her house this year. “We love hosting Thanksgiving where everyone can come over once a year and enjoy themselves.”
Cole is also looking forward to her favorite dish at Thanksgiving, as are many. Cole explained, “My favorite dish is my family’s chocolate silk pie. My great grandma used to make it all the time.” Having turned into a family tradition, the recipe has been passed down to her father, and they still get to enjoy it each year.
Thanksgiving brings different opinions on if the holiday deserves its own spotlight or if it should take the back seat and make room for the early arrival of Christmas. Senior Marissa Aikman stated, “I try to hold off on jumping straight into Christmas until the middle of November.” Although her sister believes that the Christmas decorations must be brought out the day after Halloween, Aikman added, “I get really excited for Thanksgiving, but the day after, Christmas music is playing 24/7.”
Patrick Foster, a sophomore at MHS, stated that what he is actually most looking forward to is “sleeping in until 9 or 10 and possibly going to play golf with some buddies if the weather allows him to.”
Whether it’s spending quality time with family, savoring a special recipe, trying to hold onto the Thanksgiving spirit before the Christmas season takes over, or even just a few extra hours of sleep and fun with friends, Thanksgiving break means something a little different to everyone here at Monticello High School一however, its value as a time to reconnect and relax never goes unappreciated.
