Recently, the band has been buzzing with rumors that senior Andrew Bledsoe spent his entire college fund on a saxophone. But how expensive could a saxophone really be? In a one-on-one interview, Bledsoe gave all the details people have been wondering about.
For starters, what was the actual cost of the instrument? Bledsoe said the total came out to a whopping $10,000.
While this might seem pricey for non musicians, a quick Google search will reveal that any instrument of good quality can range to multiple thousands of dollars on average, but will often last an owner years of usage. Bledsoe noted, “I would [not] have bought it if it was not something I was going to do for the rest of my life.”
Even though he did spend his college funding on his new instrument, Bledsoe went on to say that the money never had an effect on his choice. “[Well] for a while before, I was hoping to go to the U of I. After talking to different people, I have learned that the education program [at ISU] is pretty much just as good for much less money. While getting this saxophone didn’t change my decision for college, it definitely is making me lean further towards ISU than I was before.”
Bledsoe’s choice to spend his college funds on an instrument may seem curious to an outsider, but ultimately he made a decision based on his plans for his future.
