With a week of good weather in mid-November, the senior softball players got together and created a plan to prepare for the upcoming season for an hour after school.

The Sages got to work on many different aspects of softball, with both fielding and hitting. The leadership of the upperclassman has helped the underclassman get to know what the season will be like and understand the team culture.

Senior Cassidee Stoffel expressed, “My plan going into open fields was to just try and get everyone some reps in and get people back into the groove before we start team practices.”

Sophomore Emma Lawhead shared, “I learned how to throw on the run accurately and not rush yourself in the process.”

The Seniors took feedback day by day, making it more productive with each open field. Stoffel included that if she were to do anything differently, she would have done some work in the weight room.

Lawhead stated that her favorite part was fielding ground balls, which helped her be more confident and make less mistakes.

In the end, Stoffel noted, “I think it turned out pretty good. It was a successful way to introduce some of the freshmen to high school softball. I think people really learned or refreshed their skills during them!”

Lawhead agreed, saying, “I definitely think they prepared me mentally and physically, and I am now ready and feel confident about starting the season. Overall, it was something new this year to try and get the team together in a lively way.”

With open fields starting off early, the Sages Softball Team hopes to carry this strength into their upcoming season in the spring.
