The Lady Sages are hitting the gym hard in preparation for this year’s basketball season, which began with tryouts on November 3rd.
Head Coach, Seth Melton, mentioned, “These first couple weeks are really about trying to get into basketball shape and just hitting our fundamentals.”
The key to success is not just in skill level, but being able to play well together. Growing a connection with your teammates takes time on and off the court.
Freshman player, Meadow Miller, said, “My main goal for this season is to have a great time with my teammates.” She also mentioned, “The things that lead teams to greatness are being close with one another and having good relationships.”
As the season continues, it’s important to implement new strategies for overall success. Coach Melton stated, “This year we are going to be using a program that helps focus on the mental aspect of the game and being an athlete. Mental health is very important to us as a coaching staff and program, and we want to use this tool not just as a way to improve our performance, but to make the girls stronger and better equipped off the court as well.”
The mental aspect of sports is something all athletes deal with, yet is often overlooked.
There will be many challenges throughout the season. Miller also said, “We are going to be facing some really good competitors and I want us to perform to the best of our abilities.” All of the hard work and preparation will ultimately lead to the Sages’ success.
The Sages’ first competitors will be the Sullivan Redskins on November 17th, where they hope to take home their first victory of the season.
