Environmental Club members picked up trash around campus after the Homecoming Parade

Environmental club members are already trying new ways to help the environment.  Students of all ages participate in this club to create a cleaner earth.

Just recently was the Homecoming Parade, which can cause trash to be left on the streets and sidewalks. Junior Kahla Mast, member of the Environmental Club, said, “at our last meeting, we walked the parade route to pick up candy and wrappers left out from the Homecoming Parade.”

Not only do members get to help the environment, but Mast also stated, “It’s a good experience, we’re all close, and I get to meet new people.”

This isn’t the only thing they’ve done. Senior Reese Spainhour, an officer of the club, mentioned, “we have planned a walk/bike to school day on October 1st.”

They have had announcements during the school day and, stated by Spainhour, they’ve been hanging posters all around school so they can publicize the event.

Driving a vehicle can lead to air pollution. Walking or biking to school for even one day can minimize the amount of pollution where you live.

The overall purpose of the club is to, “talk about ways we can help the environment,” stated by Mast, and, “encourage other students to do what they can to help the earth,” mentioned by Spainhour.

The environmental club is making Monticello a cleaner town one step at a time.
