With the graduation of many key athletes and the bar set high from previous golf achievements, the Sages knew that they needed to work hard and be there for each other this season, and that’s exactly what they did. The MHS Girl’s Golf Team has had a great season so far, with many invite wins; they have earned conference champs and broken a school record by 27 strokes, with a 330.
Senior Isa Berry expressed how the team felt going into the season, saying, “It was more about being able to lean on each other if one of us was doing bad. Playing for each other, and wanting to do good for one another, really helped us to break that record.” Isa is one of two seniors on the golf team and has shown exceptional leadership.
With her success on the course, junior Sophie Billedo was asked about how she thought they were able to do it. Billedo said, “We’ve been practicing more chipping and putting. I think this has helped me especially with my game and taking off strokes. Going into a match, we all want to come out as the winners, and that definitely pushes us to do our best.”
Many girls on the golf team have shown a winning mentality, but have also put a large amount of trust into their teammates to help them stay confident.
With these high goals in place at the beginning of the season, the golf team has been able to make a long run in the postseason. The Sages competed yesterday at 1A State Semifinals and are competing again today in the Finals!
