Every year, students count down the days until Homecoming Week so that they can partake in many spirit-filled festivities. MHS staff members and students worked very hard to make it a week filled with fun for the Sages. Mrs. Allen and all of the Student Council were especially important in guaranteeing that Homecoming Week was a success.

From the parade through the town, to the football game under Friday night lights, students and the community came together through spirit. When asked about his favorite part of Homecoming, sophomore Jax Bailey highlighted the energy of the big game. “The Homecoming Parade and the football game were my favorite parts [of the week] because of the community coming together,” Bailey said. ”You could really feel the team spirit and support from the entire town of Monticello.”

The sage rage was the most visible at the football game against St. Teresa, where the student section was packed with purple and gold. “The most memorable part of the Homecoming game was seeing the bleachers completely filled,” Bailey explained. “So many people came back to watch us play and that gave us so much motivation going into the game.”

For the football players, the student section made a big difference to the atmosphere  on the field. Bailey said, “The student section makes the game more fun because they are loud and they give us a lot of energy. They also can get in the opposing team’s head, which helps us out.”

Homecoming is an exciting time for students at MHS. For many, the highlight was the Powderpuff game. When asked about this thrilling Wednesday night activity, sophomore Makayla Ater had a lot to share. “Powderpuff was my favorite part of homecoming because I got to bond with people from my grade, laugh, and just have so much fun with everyone. It was also a chance for me to get competitive.” Homecoming week was filled with many memorable moments and traditions. Ater shared, “My favorite activity from the night was goofing around with my friends and celebrating touchdowns.”

Between the traditions, the memories, and the sage spirit of Homecoming week, MHS has proven, yet another year, why the Sages do Homecoming the best.
