There is a new interest that has been taking the school by storm. The storm…poker. The game where participants are forced to be focused and careful with their money and the chance that they could make a lot, or lose a lot. Over the past few months, students of all ages and genders have been participating in the long-loved American pastime.
Seniors Colton Vance and Brian Wiltgen have particularly found joy in poker and have been playing immensely since the trend began. They would go on to speak on their experiences with the activity.
Regarding how he got introduced to poker, Vance states, “I got introduced to poker through one of my friends, they said I should give it a try.” Wilgen was also introduced in a similar manner stating, “I was brought into like right when all of my friends started playing. We all learned together.”
Later, Wiltgen spoke on his favorite part of poker, saying “My favorite part about playing poker is getting to spend time with my friends and have the chance to make a few dollars.” Vance agreed, stating, “My favorite part of poker is obviously winning big and playing with my buddies.”
Luck isn’t the only thing required to win big. In fact, Wiltgen defined what makes a good poker player, stating, “To be a good poker player, you have to understand the strength of starting hands, when to bet, how much to bet, your pot odds, and reading your opponents.” Vance finished with, “The most important part about being a good poker player is knowing when to fold and knowing when to bet the right amount.”
Poker can be very dangerous for your wallet, so for all those participating, be careful, and may the odds be in your favor!
