Ag Show is a Hit

Students highly anticipate the annual Ag show held by the Monticello FFA classes every year. Students ranging from Freshman to Senior work hard to make it fun, educating, and hands-on for the community of Monticello.

Planning the Ag show is a long, strenuous process. All the FFA members work diligently to make the AG show a positive experience for all attendees.

All FFA members work with Mrs. Rost and Mrs. Burge to plan out their station. Sophomore Dacey Kooi stated, “For the ag show we do lots of research in class and do many grocery runs for candy and the other things needed in the ag lab. We take class period before to help set up our stations and work with the other classes to make sure we are fully prepared.”

Sophomore Emma Arnold stated, “To prepare for the ag show, we are having a day in class where we get the stations we work at ready, prepared, and organized. There is a lot of work done by Mrs. Rost and the officers to make everything run smoothly, so they are the ones who mainly help prepare everything.”

All ages, from Preschool to 5th grade, come to visit the AG show. FFA enjoys hosting all the schools in one big setting, so they even enjoy seeing some familiar faces. Kooi stated, “My favorite part about the ag show is seeing all the little kids running around with big smiles. “They are happy to get out of class for a little bit and so are we.”

Ag show also allows the high schoolers to be reunited with familiar faces. Arnold stated, “My favorite part of the ag show is getting to see all the elementary kids and maybe some teachers that I have had in the past.”

The stations at the show include a petting zoo, face painting, and tractor races. These are among some of the most popular stations. Sophomore Lille Burse gets to bring some of her farm animals to the school. Burse stated, “I prepare for the ag show by washing my animals and getting all their food packed to bring to the school.”

On the other hand, Kooi and Arnold both work on the tractor races. Kooi stated, “I will be working the tractor races, and we are going to try to teach them patience by waiting in line and doing some friendly competition. “We will also hopefully be able to show them some tractors they may see when they are out and about.”

The AG show is a great opportunity for FFA students to give back to the community, gain leadership, and also apply what they are learning in the classroom to a real life event.
