As the countdown to summer begins, students at Monticello High School are feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety with just one month left in the school year. With the ACT behind them, many juniors are moving their focus to finals and AP tests.
Junior Emma Juvinall shared, “After the ACT I’m preparing for finals! The end of the year is coming up a lot faster than I thought!” Junior Reece Spainhour is definitely feeling the pressure of upcoming AP tests. “After the ACT all I’ve been thinking about is AP tests. It is very important to do good on them, to show colleges that you obtained information from the year,” he said.
The emotional aspects are just as important as the academic ones. Emma expressed her mixed feeling about the end of the school year, stating, “I’m feeling excited and nervous about only having two months of school left. I’m ready to be out of school but scared for my senior year.” Reece had similar statements. He said, “I’m honestly so happy that this school year is almost over. It’s been very hard and the worst school year yet… I lost a really close friend earlier this year, and that made it extra hard to get through. I miss him every day.”
Seniors are also reflecting on their time at MHS. Audrie Bundy shared, “I feel sad and happy at the same time. It’s sad because it’s the end of this chapter in my life and I will miss everyone, but I’m happy at the same time because I’m excited to see what the next years of my life bring.”
As students reminisce about their favorite memories from this year, Audrie highlighted the importance of friendships, saying, “Making so many new friends and getting the chance to experience going to state with my friends for football cheer was my favorite part of the year.” Reece also recalled, “My favorite memory this year was probably the musical.”
With the end of the school year approaching, students are not only preparing for their exams but also cherishing memories. The mix of excitement and nostalgia creates a positive atmosphere as the school year ends.
