Senior Xander Anawaty attempts to fight senioritis and complete his assignments

As the year comes to an end, senioritis is hitting in strong waves. Not only that, but also nostalgia as the seniors are beginning to realize their days together are dwindling down. Between the many lasts that are being faced and the realization that the future is just on the other side of the door, there are many bittersweet emotions circling Monticello High School.

Senior Xander Anawaty battles his senioritis as he stated, “I am staying motivated by remembering that I am almost done with high school and I stay excited by remembering to enjoy my last days of high school and time spent with my friends.”

It can be weird to feel such a lack of motivation for school while still wanting to stay engaged. Senior Maya Cremeens explained, “Instead of having the desire to finish the year off strong all I want is my bed. It calls my name from my desk and so does my fyp. It’s a hard life. I call it a good week if I manage to make myself get an assignment done.”

Although similar to Anawaty, she’s trying to make the most of the few weeks that are left of the year, “Taking in all of the social “lasts” makes me feel motivated to get my work done so that I can enjoy my after school time spending it with friends.”

It’s a difficult disease to navigate as the sun gets warmer and graduation gets closer. As Anawaty stated, “…it is impossible to lock in without sacrificing my social life and last days spent with my friends before we all move away and go to college.” But the seniors are determined to make the most of it.

With graduation just a few short weeks away, the class of ‘25 will continue to do what they do best. They will ride the wave of adversity through this period of change as they make the most of their final memories as Sages.
