The One Acts are in full swing at MHS. As seniors are busy with wrapping up their high school experience, some people have decided to direct small plays.
If you are curious about what the one acts are, senior Leah Killion described them as “…a show in the spring directed by the seniors … for those people who might know a little less about theater, to kind of get into it a little bit more.”
New director, senior Maggie McCabe, shared why she was inspired to become a director this year. McCabe said, “I have been in every musical production as a cast member. I wanted to be involved in Thespians in another way. Directing allowed me to do that.”
Killion continues talking about why she decided to be in the One Acts this year. She said, “I did the One Acts because a lot of my friends are directing, and… I am bored at home. I wanted to do something with my time and maybe try and kick senioritis in the butt a little bit. I am trying to have a responsibility, so I am not just floating through life. My favorite part about the One Acts has definitely been spending time with people, especially the underclassmen.”
You should consider supporting this student-led activity. McCabe reflects on her time in the theater program at MHS, “I have been in choir and theater ever since I came to MHS as a sophomore. The rehearsals and performances through both programs have given me my favorite memories throughout high school.”
The shows are coming up soon, so you should get a ticket to see the seniors’ hard work. Not only have the seniors directed, like McCabe, but others are acting, like Killion, including students of all other grades. Hopefully you are able to show your support to the wonderful program we have here at Monticello.
