Art Club Explores Indianapolis

Ever since MHS’ Art Club started, it has thrived in so many ways. With multiple members and club officers, the club has helped many people grow in their artistic skill but also find friends and a safe community to express themselves in.

On April 9th, the top 14 Art Club hour earners went on a field trip to The Garage Food Hall and the Newfields: The Indianapolis Museum of Art in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Sophomore Noah Montgomery shared about his favorite part of the trip saying, “I thought the best part was the fact I got to hang out with a group of very fun and interesting people and explore two beautiful places I’ve never been to.”

Mr. Stripens and the 14 Art Club members who went on the trip pose at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

The Newfields: The Indianapolis Museum of Art had multiple different exhibits ranging from modern interior furniture designs to classical old time famous paintings like the painting Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee painted by Ludolf Bakhuizen. All the members on the trip were able to wander with their friends and explore different exhibits.

Sophomore Abbie Woods believes these field trips benefit the members and the club. “I feel like it helps people to become more active in the club because you’re working towards a reward,” she explained.

Field trips like this are always amazing opportunities for students to explore other environments and experience new things. This helps broaden the students’ views on life and the world, and this gives their brain a small break from all the stress and anxiety of school.

Montgomery added to this by saying, “I think it’s a great way not only for you to hang out with your friends and go places as a high schooler [that] most people can’t, but also kind of like a reward for doing something you enjoy. The club itself can even benefit from trips like these because it gives you a time and place to meet new people.”

The Art Club holds field trips like this every year, helping the club members work towards an ending goal and reward through hard work within the club..This also gives them opportunities to see new places and make memories.

Woods and Montgomery both agreed that more people should join the Art Club so they have opportunities at these field trips. Montgomery shared his views and enjoyment about the field trip and said, “I love them so much cause it’s almost like a vacation you get to go on with your friends. I think everyone should go on trips like these even if they’re not for Art Club, because they’re an experience not every high schooler gets to have.”

Art club meets the first Tuesday of every month in Mr. Stripens’ room during homeroom. Grab a friend and come on down to make memories you’ll never forget.
