FFA Week festivities

National FFA week was February 16th through the 23rd. It was packed with lots of fun activities, different lunches, and competitions throughout the week.

The week ended with a school favorite – free breakfast for all. FFA took over the school kitchen to make a hearty breakfast which included, pancakes, french toast, biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, and fruit.

Junior Lauren Albrecht, an FFA officer, stated, “My favorite day has been today [Friday] because even though I had to be up and at the school by 6am, it was worth it to serve everyone free breakfast.”

Albrecht went on to say who helped out Friday morning for the breakfast. “Every officer, Mrs. Rost, and the cooks helped out this morning. I really enjoyed seeing all the kids and teachers come in and enjoy a homemade breakfast to start their day off.”

The FFA officer also raised money throughout the week with a friendly competition. Each officer had a bucket and the officer with the least amount of money at the end of the week risked being covered in a mystery substance.

Senior Braxton Tharp, President of FFA, commented, “The idea for the fundraiser actually came from one of my fellow officers! They wanted to do something similar to what Pep Club does, but we wanted to come up with our own. That’s when someone brought up a reel on Instagram. They saw and said we should fill up a balloon with something and pop it right over the officer’s head!”

Tharp hopes that by the end of the week people will miss it afterwards, meaning that they did a good job as officers planning this year’s FFA week.

“All of the officers including myself sat down and combined what we did last year with new ideas we had this year into one week of National FFA fun!” Tharp also remarked. “For instance, we always had the walking taco lunch, but this year we decided to try the FFA Olympics which had egg toss, wheel barrel racing, and more.”

Albrecht commented on what her favorite outfit that stood out to her this past week. “My favorite outfit from this week was definitely USA day. I saw a freshman dressed up in a blowup costume, red, white, and blue torch.”

Many of the officers are already looking forward to and planning next year’s FFA week!
