Senior Sam Burse poses to show his team spirit

On Sunday, February 9th, the Eagles stunned the two-time defending Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs. With a final score of 40-22 in favor of the Eagles, quarterback Jalen Hurts and his defense proved to the world how good they really are. Students at MHS have been sure to share their joy of the Chiefs’ loss and Kendrick’s halftime show throughout the week.

“I really enjoyed watching the Eagles whip the defending champs,” said senior football player, Sam Burse. “I thoroughly enjoyed the absolute domination by the Eagles’ defense especially. Nothing made me happier than seeing Cooper DeJean get his pick six,” added Burse.

Around the school, there has been a common opinion: people don’t like the Chiefs. “I always like seeing the Chiefs lose…” shared senior Russ Brown. Students are tired of seeing the same team play in the Super Bowl year after year, which is understandable. However, there should be some respect as we have the chance to witness Patrick Mahomes chase down Tom Brady as the GOAT of American football.

Another common opinion that students can agree on is the Super Bowl halftime show, for they think it wasn’t very special. “Kendrick’s halftime show was okay in my opinion,” said Brown. “I like his music a lot, but when it came to him performing at the Super Bowl, it just wasn’t the same,” he added.

On an absolutely loaded NFL roster, the Eagles had a few players who stood out in the Super Bowl. 3-time Pro Bowler, AJ Brown, college standout, Devonta Smith, and dominant defensive lineman, Jalen Carter are just the start of this stacked team. “Watching Jalen Hurts play really well and watching the Eagles defense made for a great game to watch,” said Brown. “I like watching Saquon Barkley,” he added.

This year’s Super Bowl is being compared to a past Super Bowl with a similar final. “It reminded me a lot of Super Bowl 20 when the Bears beat the Patriots. The Patriots focused so hard on stopping Walter Payton, and I feel the Chiefs did the same thing with Saquon Barkley.” The 1985 Chicago Bears took down the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl with a score of 41-10. The Bears and Eagles both respectively had dominating defense with an explosion of offense.

This was a Super Bowl that the world will talk about forever. The halftime show was not great, the commercials didn’t stand out, and the game itself fell short of expectations. However, it’s the Super Bowl, and everyone will always look forward to the Super Bowl.
