Sock it to the Rockets

The Lady Sages take on the Unity Rockets for senior night celebrating the careers of Megan Allen, Pearl Glaze, and Lucy Leatherwood. They look to add another conference win making them 6-3 in the Illini Prairie conference.

Over the season, the girls have come up with many ways to hype themselves up, the biggest being a jam-out session before they hit the court. This has been a big part of their pre-game and they will likely continue the pre-game music on Monday. Sophomore Ali Weidner states “Our tradition is to listen to Stay by Rihanna and I believe this is our good luck charm. We don’t only listen to sad music though we listen to a lot of rap and hype music too.”  Additionally Sophomore Sarah Cresap stated, “We get hype playing music in the locker room before games and just knowing that we have each other’s backs.”

Being prepared mentally and physically is a big part of being confident and ready to go for big games, especially a rivalry like this one. Sophomore Emma Arnold states, “I usually try to watch some type of film on a big rival to see who we’ll be up against.” While Cresap expressed “I get my mind right just how I would any other game. I know my potential so I always play to that, never settle for less.”

While a home court advantage can boost the girls’ confidence, they are hoping the rivalry along with senior night will bring the sage-cage and the community into the game. Weidner states “I think playing at home is definitely an advantage. The Monticello community loves a good rivalry especially against Unity. Knowing that everyone can be there supporting us is definitely good for us.”  Arnold also added, “I think there is an advantage playing Unity at home because we are more comfortable here and hopefully lots of fans will be there to support us.”

The 17-10 Monticello girls basketball team faces the 13-14 Unity Rockets on February 10th at 7:00 P.m in the Sievers Center. The girls team would appreciate a huge show out to celebrate the seniors, as they are hopeful for a dominant win against the Rockets.
