The Super Bowl is one of the biggest and most-watched games of the year, whether you enjoy football or not. Students at Monticello High School already have plans coming up for this year’s Bowl, which is being played on Sunday, February 9th, at 5:30 pm. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will take on Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. From a special Super Bowl Sunday tradition to a huge feast, everyone has plans for the day that look a little different.

With the day being close to Valentine’s, some spend it with the people they love the most. Freshman Kinley Kooi says she’s “usually with family or friends watching the Super Bowl with sides and treats.”

The Super Bowl can be a good time to get together with family or friends that you haven’t seen in awhile.

One of the many reasons so many watch it is because of the amazing half-time show and the hilarious commercials. This year, Kendrick Lamar will be performing the halftime show.  Kooi also states, “I’m most excited for the commercials and halftime show, I don’t really pay attention to the game.”

Many are looking forward to the game this year, and it should be a good one. With many controversial opinions for the teams playing in Super Bowl LIX, the Chiefs will be playing for the 3rd year in a row. Sophomore Logan Kuntz says he’s rooting for the Eagles because he “doesn’t like Patrick Mahomes” and he’s “tired of the Chiefs winning”. Kuntz is most excited to see if they do win again though. A lot of students at Monticello are hoping for a change this year with a new winner.

For some it’s just a normal game, but for others it is a national holiday. Monticello students have exciting plans for the most-watched game of the year. With the best athletes playing, the biggest and most trendy artists performing, and the most expensive commercials, the Super Bowl never fails to be a hit for everybody.
