Sophomore Forrest Rawdin poses for a picture while junior Brady Ball completes some weighted rows.

With baseball tryouts less than two months out, players are looking to perfect their skills before presenting them in front of the coaching staff.

Connor Gross, an assistant who recently joined the coaching staff last season, is supervising the lifts, pushing the players to improve themselves going into the season. Junior Jake Robinson and sophomore Tucker Buchanan, both members of the baseball team last season, would go on to speak very highly about their experiences.

Robinson and Buchanan agreed that the lifting is improving the team. Robinson said, “It helps us get stronger and prepares [us] for the upcoming season.” Buchanan followed with, “I do think that weights are a good addition. I feel like it helps bond the team by showing that no matter how strong or who is on JV or Varsity, that hard work is how you get to the next level.”

Buchanan explained how lifting builds team culture, stating, “[Lifting] shows dedication and makes you want to push yourself when you’re surrounded by people who want to get better and push themselves.” Robinson added, “It improves team culture by getting people [to] encourage each other.”

Robinson thought that lifting has benefited baseball players, and should be looked into for other sports as well, saying, “I think any sports team that is committed to getting better should participate because the results are great for any sport.” Buchanan wrapped by saying, “I think that every team should do some sort of offseason lifting and that there are only benefits to offseason weights. It can also help the bond between the teams.”

Lifting takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5:00pm in the new weight room. These lifting sessions are open to anyone considering trying out.
