Winter sports have begun and the Sages are pumped up. There’s a lot of enthusiasm about the girls and boys basketball teams, as well as wrestling.
The girls basketball team has had a few games already, but sophomore Ali Weidner said, “We are looking forward to playing St. Joe because we lost to them by a few points last year, and they are a talented team that we should beat.” When asked what makes her most excited about the team this year, she said, “The freshmen are very talented and our team is very social and friendly, so it helps our team work together better.” Weidner stated that in order to have a good season, “We’ll need a winning record because it’s obtainable and we need to work hard for it.”
The boys basketball team always gets a lot of hype from the community. Sophomore Gus Reppert said, “The people on the team and the environment the team is surrounded by everyday” is what makes him most excited about the team this year. To have a good winning season, Reppert said, “We’ll need to have a good effort from everybody on the team. We always need to have the desire to be better than we were the day before.”
Numbers have grown dramatically on the wrestling team, resulting in the biggest team the Sages have seen in years. Senior Russ Brown shared, “We haven’t had a team this big in a while, so it’ll be good to see how that will go.” Brown added that the is looking forward to wrestling Leroy this year. “They always have a good team and it’s always fun to see good competition.” To have a good season, Brown said, “Everyone is going to have to buy in. We are going to have to work hard everyday to make the most out of the season.” This year’s team is very aggressive and ready to go.
The Monticello community is in for a treat this winter season. All of our winter sports are pumped up and ready to go with a winning mindset. The annual Holiday Hoopla is December 26-28, and the Sages are looking for a loud crowd!
