The Christmas spirit is well under way at Monticello High School. Students have begun decorating the halls, making Christmas lists, and breaking out the holiday attire. With the seniors experiencing their last holiday season of their childhood, there’s a sense of nostalgia going through the building.
When asked what her favorite holiday tradition is, Senior Kinsley Neighbors shared, “[Our] family gift exchange because I love gifts and getting them for people (preferably with my dad’s money).”
Fun gift exchanges along with family time holds a near and dear place in students’ hearts. Senior Vanya Zuniga states, “My favorite Christmas tradition our family does is Facetime my family the morning of Christmas, because my aunt and grandma always like to see us open gifts and they live in California!”
When asked to reminisce on their childhoods during the holiday season, Zuniga shares, “Something that seems nostalgic to me is driving around and seeing Christmas lights and waking up to my siblings excited to open gifts on Christmas morning!”
Neighbors’ memories recall similar moments when stating, “Waking up and freaking out about the gifts under the tree, then storming through the house to wake everyone else up because that’s just the way of the youngest sibling.”
Students still have to undertake one more week of school before break is upon them, but then they can enjoy all the nostalgia of the Christmas season.
