The basketball season started on the 28th with their home debut against Pleasant Plains. The Sages fought hard but did not come out with the win, losing 45 to 53. Although the team was missing seniors Carter Foran, Ike Young, and Mason High as well as junior Nolan Buehnerkemper, who were with the football team making a run to the State Championship.

This past Tuesday the Sages faced Riverton at home, this was the first game they had the whole team. The Sages tried to claw out a victory but came up short losing 53-63. Then on the 7th the Sages travelled to Marshall, they couldn’t get the win with the final score being 58-37.

The Sages are hoping to improve their record and make a deep run in the playoffs. Junior Nolan Buenhnerkemper stated, “Because we are a senior-heavy group, I think our leadership and experience will help us make a deep playoff run, unlike last season.” Senior Tyler Blythe, another leader of the sages, said, “ My goal is to win as many games as possible and maybe even win regionals. I want to show everyone we are a great team.”

The team also has an advantage that the football team had as well, a big senior class. Sophomore Luke Murphy stated, “The seniors look out for the underclassmen and they keep helping our team improve . I think the sense of leadership the seniors have this year will help us to do amazing things.” The Seniors also have a strong bond between each other. Senior Tyler Bylthe said, “ Our team chemistry is good I think we all love each other and have a good team bond”

The Sages will look to get their first win of the season at home against Williamsville on the 10th and Heyworth on the 13th. The Sages are confident that they will step it up throughout these games. Nolan said, “We have to continue to get better each and every practice and play as hard as possible for 32 minutes throughout the games. As long as we do that, I’m positive we will have a successful season and meet all of our goals.”
