This year, Monticello High School’s National Honor Society decided to host a winter dance. The idea is that all MHS students will come together for a good time and donate canned food to less fortunate members of our community.
While many people have been involved in the dance preparations, senior Cody Ball provides a glimpse into what NHS has done so far. She said, “We’ve coordinated the food, advertising, and ticket sales. We have also planned how we will use the funds we receive to help the community.”
Additionally, senior Connor Kuntz, part of the tickets committee, has been working alongside Ball and other members of NHS to throw the dance . Kuntz said, “Lots of committees have been created in preparation for the dance. Every single member is involved in making this a really memorable experience.”
While NHS members expect the dance to be a good time, there are ulterior motives in convincing students to come. Ball states that donating to the cause is an act of community service. She said, “We plan to use the funds we make to give back to our community and those in need by providing food boxes for families over our winter break.”
Even though many members have been putting a lot of thought into the dance, a few have heard poorly about the possible outcomes of the turnout. Kuntz expressed his sadness upon hearing the different possibilities. He said, “We have faced lots of people who just aren’t too fond of the idea. Lots of my peers have told me they just aren’t going. So, I have tried to elevate their view of the time by telling them I will be there.”
The dance will be on December 7th at 7:00 p.m. in Moore Gym. For more details, take the time to look at the many posters hung around the school. Ball concluded, “This winter dance gives us a chance to have fun as a group one last time before the second semester and give back to the community.”
