Harvest Fest wrapped up on the 21st of November in the form of a huge banquet. The traditional event, which includes student speeches and a pie auction, has been long standing corner stone of Monticello’s FFA because it has so many benefits.
FFA president Braxton Tharp said “I would say the biggest benefit is getting to see the parents, locals, and kids’ smiles on their faces when they see the pies, the silent auction items, and just one another!”
FFA Ag teacher Mrs.Rost views the upsides for this even as unending. “The benefits of working harvest fest include – service hours, meeting new people and serving others, practicing communication skills. The benefits that come out of the overall event include financial support for our chapter and valuable networking with our entire community, especially those in the Ag Industry.”
Not only is Harvest Fest great at teaching valuable skills it allows the club the come together as a team. FFA president Braxton Tharp shared “Well, being at the beginning of the year, I feel like all FFA members from the Freshman level and up to this year’s Seniors are able to show up and be a part of Harvest Fest! It also brings in all the parents and locals to show them what FFA is about and how it’s not only about farming.”
FFA Ag teacher Mrs.Rost shared “I don’t think I could pick one grade that stepped up the most. All classes pulled their weight and the officer team did a great job delegating tasks to plan a very successful event!”
During this FFA year, Rost and Tharp have devoted themselves to improving this Harvest Fest and the team behind it. FFA president Braxton Tharp also relies heavily on fellow FFA members and said “The officer team has been a huge part of preparing for our biggest fundraiser of the year!”
FFA will host another community event in the spring, inviting students from all schools to their Ag Show.
