As fall break quickly approaches, it’s apparent that everyone is ready for it. However, it’s possible that the people most in need of a break here at MHS is the staff. After their hard work to keep everything and everyone in line, they need this break more than anyone.
Mrs. Galbo, media center aide and part-time guidance secretary, said one of her family traditions for Thanksgiving is “staying at the house and cooking with the kids, along with going to see some family.” Her favorite Thanksgiving food to cook, as well as eat, is sweet potatoes.
Other staff keep themselves busy for break. Mrs. Klein, PE teacher and girls basketball and softball coach, said she will be spending her break in the area. “I’ve got a basketball game that Monday night, then we just have some practices. Friday, I might go up to the Illinois game at Wrigley field to see them play Northwestern.”
Mrs. Wolter-Harris, classroom and media center aide, is excited to leave Monticello for a bit. “I’m actually going to be in Dolphin Island and then I’m returning on Thanksgiving day to have dinner with my in-laws.”
It’s truly fascinating to see all the different ways people enjoy their breaks. People use their free time for all different things, from visiting family, to attending sporting events, to traveling. Even the staff is divided on how to spend their break, some going out and doing things, and others just plan on staying home and enjoying the downtime. What they all have in common is that they are taking the time to do what they enjoy and getting ready to take on the last half of the second quarter.
