The MHS thespians successfully wrapped up their fall production of Bugs, this past weekend. Many people were not sure what to expect of it. Junior Amara Fulton described the play, saying, “Bugs working together with elements of Greek comedy and the gods.” Senior Calvin Knittle added to the plot, “Bugs of all different kinds coming together to fight evil.”

The cast held auditions in September and worked hard for over a month to bring the bugs to life. There was a variety of all kinds of insects including honeybees, fireflies, spiders, a luna moth, a cockroach, and many more. “It’s not a show that you would expect to be as funny as it is,” Senior Tyler Olsen stated.

However with fun, challenges always follow. When senior Calvin Knittle was asked the hardest part about taking on his role he stated “Probably just learning how to be bug-like because it takes a lot of over acting.”

This play was also senior Kyndal Cafin’s first show as student director. She helped ensure the show ran smoothly, and she made sure the cast put out a show they would be proud of. “I wasn’t expecting to take as many notes as I did, I didn’t realize how much the little things actually stick out!” Cafin exclaimed. She has always loved to be on the stage, but she was equally as excited for an opportunity to work behind the scenes this time around.

Every cast member put in their best effort for this production, especially junior Scotty Owen. Fulton stated. “Nobody expected what his character would be like, he did an incredible job portraying Blackwing (the cockroach), and I had fun watching him do it.”

Congratulations to the cast on an incredible show, and keep your eye out for upcoming information about the spring musical!

Huge shout out to Owen as the cockroach, it was probably the funniest character up there. Wilson as Grok and Queen Bee also deserves a mention, in my opinion.
