Under the bright gym lights and the cheers of devoted fans, Monticello Volleyball senior night marked a bittersweet ‘last hurrah’ for graduating players towards the end of October, celebrating years of dedication, teamwork, and unforgettable memories on the court.
As the season winded down, senior night brought a special celebration, honoring the hard work and dedication of graduating players. Senior Catie Swartz said “The most special part of the night was probably seeing all of the efforts everyone went through to make the night special. Everybody was so sweet and did a great job.”
Stepping onto the court for the final time on senior night, players prepared to leave it all on the floor, knowing this game would mark the end of a chapter. Senior Pearl Glaze exclaimed, “It was a bittersweet moment because it kind of signifies the end of my volleyball career, but everyone really just came together to get the win on senior night and I really just felt appreciated by my teammates.I think it was a good close on the season.”
Reflecting on their favorite memories, the seniors shared how moments on the volleyball court built lifelong friendships and added even more significance to this final senior night celebration. Senior Alice Swanson stated, “I would say my favorite memory from my senior year was the U of I camp with the team. It really helped the chemistry within our team and shaped us all. We had so many good bonding moments and I think it was really great for us all.”
The volleyball program has not only shaped the seniors’ relationships with others, but also shaped them as teammates. The effect the program had on the seniors will influence those up and coming to be better teammates. Swartz noted, “Overall, my favorite memories were probably when I was an underclassmen and being influenced by those who were older than me, and then being able to be that support system for those younger than me. It shaped me into a player by just helping me, like making me want to be there for those around me and be as supportive as I can.”
